Saxony-Anhalt, the result is final: seats confirmed, Landtag on October 6
The Landeswahlausschuss certifies the distribution resulting from the September 6 vote. The national BSW rules out a coalition with the AfD, but maintains cooperation on individual issues.
We wrote about this on September 8 and September 11 (see the article dated 2026-09-11). Today that picture becomes final.
On September 22, 2026, the Landeswahlausschuss established the final overall result of the Landtagswahl of September 6, confirming the distribution of seats compared to the provisional count: out of 83 total seats, the absolute majority remains fixed at 42. No change, therefore, in the figures the editorial staff had already reported in the days following the vote.
The certification unlocks the institutional calendar. Representatives of the six parliamentary groups of the future Landtag had already agreed on September 16 on the date of the constitutive session: October 6, 2026, at 11 a.m. On that same September 22, the Landtag opened the press accreditation procedure for that session, with the application deadline set for September 29 — a technical step that signals the media attention expected for the event.
The political question raised by previous pieces remains open, however: who will be able to form a majority. The BSW’s federal chairman, Fabio De Masi, announced in mid-September that his party will not sit in a governing coalition with the AfD and will not support Ulrich Siegmund’s candidacy for minister-president, while leaving open the possibility of issue-by-issue cooperation in the chamber between the two parties on individual parliamentary matters.
That distinction — no governing alliance, but possible vote-by-vote agreements — remains for now the only scenario publicly stated by the BSW, while CDU, SPD, Greens and Linke maintain the line of refusing talks with the AfD already recorded in the days following the vote. With the result now certified and the constitutive date set, the next verifiable deadline is October 6, when the new Landtag will formally convene.
